Capture Greatness! provides scholarship writing & college coaching support for first-generation college goers and students in under-resourced schools.
Our goal is to partner with schools and non-profits to boost college admission and scholarship success.
We can deliver our programming at your site or facilitate staff trainings to implement our tools and resources. We are a 501 c 3 non-profit – donations are tax-deductible – and go directly to supporting our scholarship clubs in Philadelphia public schools.
Our mission is to support students from under-resourced schools and communities in finding the power in their personal stories to earn the scholarships they need to acquire a college degree.
We believe that every student has value and that the solutions we seek for society live in the hearts and minds of young people.
Capture Greatness’ vision is to transform struggling communities into hubs of educational and economic empowerment.
In 2013, I was the College & Career Coordinator, in the Student Success Center, at Germantown High School. The federal funding was being cut for Student Success Centers across the City and Philadelphia’s School Reform Commission voted to close Germantown High along with 22 other schools, that year. Personally, I was faced with my second lay-off in two years.
Determined not to allow another budget cut to stop me from doing the work I loved – I started blogging about college and scholarship success. I even volunteered my time to offer free workshops to students in public schools.
Students and Administrators saw the impact of what I brought to their schools. Many vowed to find money in their budgets or write grants to continue the work. That’s how one workshop series, titled, “Capturing Greatness” became this organization – Capture Greatness!
In our first two years of programming, we helped local students secure over $1Million in scholarships. Today, we are just under the $2Million mark, have students in some of the top schools in the country, including Yale & Cornell, and have 4 Gates Millennium Scholars!
Because of our programs, students from low-income households are completing college with little-to-no debt and are pursuing professions that will change the trajectory of their lives and their communities.
We believe that greatness lives in the hearts and minds of these young people – it’s our goal to capture it.
